Bryan Hearsey has spent much of the summer in non-academic pursuits. Two and half weeks touring Wales by bus and train in June. Wales (beautiful, friendly, wonderful for walking---highly recommended) and three weeks visiting friends and family in Washington State have kept Carolyn and Dr. Hearsey out of the PA heat. Dr. Hearsey will attend the Actuarial Research Conference in August at Robert Morris University to keep up with the academic activity in the actuarial profession.
David Lyons gave a talk titled "Hamilton, Hopf and Bloch" at the Joint Math Colloquium of Millersville University and Franklin and Marshall College at the Millersville campus on April 18th, 2007. Dr. Lyons traveled to Denver over spring break to attend the American Physical Society national meeting. Lyons' oldest son William graduated in May from Warren Wilson College. Lyons' joint paper with physics colleague Scott N. Walck, "Maximum stabilizer dimension for non-product states," has been accepted for publication in Physical Review A.
Ken Yarnall's head is still spinning after he, his wife Mary and son Conor adopted a baby girl, Mira, last September. She's growing fast, and should be walking and talking soon. Yarnall and rising senior Jesse Spillane '09 began research this summer on ways to enhance an existing C++ networking library. The work is progressing nicely, with plans to publish the first set of modifications later this fall. Yarnall hopes to use the modified library as a basis for application development in advanced CS courses thereafter.
Jocelyn (Norton) Cornick '98 reports the birth of a son this January. She now lives in Louisville KY and continues to work at home for Retirement Consulting Actuaries.
Luke Wallace '02 sends this birth announcement: "Avery Lynn Wallace, born Thursday June 7th at 5:02 PM. 7 lbs even and 20 inches long. Mom and Avery are both doing well."
Jason Clay '04 has completed the examinations for his FCAS designation. His Hartford co-workers Justin Albert '05 and Laura Lagler '05 have completed the exams for ACAS and ASA respectively.
Alexis Harner '05 has complete the Part 2/FM actuarial exam and has been promoted to Actuarial Assistant at Penn National Insurance in Harrisburg.
Brendan Cawley '06 began working for ING in West Chester PA in February.
Nick Marshburn '06 sends word that he passed his qualifying exams for the PhD program at Johns Hopkins University.
Adrienne Wentzel '06 writes that she has landed a job teaching 8th grade mathematics in Plymouth Meeting, PA, and is excited to be starting the new job.

Erik Vargo '07: "After visiting William and Mary..., I've finally decided that that's where I'll be starting in the Fall. Since I'm not sure I'll want to attempt the PhD in the future, I figure a masters program (in OR) would be the best place to start. After talking with the faculty and some students at W&M, it seems that students finishing the program typically go elsewhere for a PhD and are usually pretty successful and well prepared. If anything interesting happens in the future, I'll be sure to let you all know. Thanks once again for all of your help these past four years!"
