Hey everybody. To anyone who has read these articles, found interest in them, and decided to come back for more, I am sorry for my delay and my procrastination on writing new posts. I’m simply a busy college student who doesn’t have enough time for writing posts all the time. I’ve had a quite a few great experiences in this audio world since last I wrote to you all. Some of these include great tracking and mixing sessions, simply reading articles, or seeing live performances, and much much more. I will try to write a few posts sometime soon about a few sessions I’ve done these past… what?… 7 months? Some of these sessions include photos of the entire tracking session, some on the mix session, etc. Who knows.. hopefully I’ll even be able to upload some audio for you guys to hear. Two bands in particular that I’ve had a bunch of fun working with are great up and coming bands… you guys should check them out on myspace… or even better… live!!! If you’d like to see either band live, leave me a post or e-mail and ask me when and where to check these guys out. Anyways, for all you hip youngsters and elders into jazz… check out Shoeless Grooves, a LVC band who just jazz! (as opposed to just rock :-p). And for you ambient air users.. check out McKenzie, comprised of one LVC student and one Penn Tech student. Both bands rock and consist of awesome musicians. Anyways, I hope you guys check them out, but also check out this new awesome mic/audio interface for you home/project studio recorders out there. I’m sure you’ve all heard of Apogee interfaces and know of the user friendly, easy to use awesomeness and their sexy sleekness. Recently they came out with a new audio interface that has a built in mic…. and it sounds awesome! It’s called the Apogee One. Check it out… and be sure to check out the Tommy Emmanuel “One Session”… recorded with only the One and his laptop.

Just in case some of you didn’t hear, listen to this great deal. Rode Microphones is sponsoring a clutch deal this August (2009) in which they will sell one out of three M-Series microphones (m1, m2, m3) for only $1.00 (American) with proof of purchase of one of many other Rode microphones. Hmm…let’s see. I am very happy with my choice of major so far. I’m really into the subject, and I like our school’s program very much. I like the fact that the college stresses a lot about having a well-rounded education, which I guess is the goal of a liberal arts college. I don’t necessarily mean just a well-rounded education in general, but rather and more precisely a well-rounded music education. We just don’t learn the tech side and that only of our major, but we also expand our knowledge of music & aural theory and voice proficiency, and also need to keep our musicianship up as well. So far I like the school’s staff a lot and think it’s great how they work as a close-knit team to really help their students succeed. I think it’s very helpful and beneficial, and I think we have great teachers lecturing our classes. However, as Dr. Day taught us all, an intelligent man once said, “With every action comes an equal and opposite reaction.” Although my analogy differs slighty in the equal part, Isaac Newton’s law also reflects my thoughts on my choice of major at this school. So far I like the program a lot, but I just think it’s unfortunate and quite a bummer that freshmen do not have personal access to our school’s studios. Although I do understand why such a rule would be enforced for several reasons, I just get slightly irritated by this. Also, I hope you don’t get offended by this Dr. Hill because I mean no personal offence at all, but I feel like our Survey to Music Industry class was not completely necessary all the time. Your book is a great aid and way of learning about recording technology, and I believe it is very easy to understand and is very well structured; I’m sure I’m going to be using it still in the future to come too. But I just felt that we didn’t always get a lot accomplished in class. It’s not your fault, it’s just that lots of the time there wasn’t much material to cover. I’d say my favorite class this semester was last class I believe, when we went to Studio A and learned about and reviewed facts about mics. I think this course would have been much funner if we had more classes learning about gear. All in all, I’m still excited about my major and I’m looking forward to finishing these following years with my rad MRT classmates. Good luck in any and all of your class voice, aural theory, music theory, and piano class tests and quizzes. And lastly, goodluck to our classmates who have already decided this program isn’t for them. I hope your future major makes you very content.
