Observations 3 and 4 (?)
Posted on | November 10, 2008 | No Comments
On Wednesday, November 5th at a late hour, I observed Dan Klinger in Studio B. I observed different Mic positioning for guitar. Fortunately I had mine or we would have nothing to record. We got to look at the different mics, and Dan told us which mics were good for high-end and low-end, etc. And we ended up choosing a few types. I helped set up the stands and stuff so i got the setting up help too. I sat in the iso booth and recorded some tracks, using 3 different types of microphones and different positioning .
After recording it, we went into the the mixing room and Dan showed us the very basics on how to run the analog board. Patching seems really confusing and I’m sure I’ll get it eventually but whew! He showed us how to set the EQ, change levels on monitors, the basic things that make up the board. Nothing that hard. There wasn’t anything to mix because it was just my guitar so it was pretty simple. But i learned how to use the studio in the bare minimum way.
————————
Thursday, I was again with Dan Klinger in Studio B. Around 11 till late. This time a few friends and I recorded a jam and a song. So I got to see a lot more: drum micing, direct in (bass), violin and guitar. As well with all of the micing, I got to see how the headphones were able to be plugged in and work with the soud room. It’s crazy that all of that could be put into one board. Horray for multitracking. We did some rough recordings, but i was more psyched to goto the sound board and see what he was going to do to it after. I watched Dan mess with the EQ and try to balance each cymbal on the drums. Pan each instrument to a certain place to make it sound more realistic. I learned in this session a lot more about the patching and where everything was going. I learned about the subouts, and the Assigning of channels and having to pan the track to dead-left or right to get it to be “1″ or “2″, etc. I got to learn how to overdub vocals when we tried adding that. I also learned, I don’t know if its correct, but Dan didn’t know if Radar could or not, that there aren’t “takes” like there are in Logic when you’re recording instruments. It just records over the previous recording. Bummer. He allowed me to change a few things so I could hear what I wanted out of the recording. It was interesting. When my bass was being recorded it turns out somehow the direct in for the Violin went into my channel as well. We couldn’t figure that out. We ended up staying too late messing with the recordings and having to pack up before we were finished. I got to help tear down and wrap cords and put away mics correctly. I learned a lot more about the analog sound board in this session and how to use it with Radar then I ever learned in any times using a board to record.

Hey so I’ve heard a rumor that Rise Against might play at ValleyFest this year. I became a random fan of theirs like 3 weeks ago-ish. Cool stuff. This is their current single I believe: Give it All. Its on Rock Band 2, so it’s obviously good haha.
This is a local band near me called Running Red Lights. They’re from the Princeton area and they’re sick. Check out this funky bass line in Last Call.
Lastly, a new band that i would call a funkier version of Daft Punk, Justice. This is a random song off of their album.

I just got my old school music back.
Ever listen to Sum 41 a while back? yeah they were good.
Added Fat Lip and Still Waiting for them. my two favs. that and pieces but 2 is good enough. The image to the left is a picture of the album “Does this look infected?” which Still Waiting is from.
So Am I, Still waiting, for this world to stop hating
My friend current doesn’t actually have a band but is doing his own project waiting for members. This is his song called Killing Spree on his to be band Seagull Stew. I added bass and drums cuz I thought it’d sound more together that way.
Lastly, I recently bought the EP for Double Entendre, a band from LVC, soon to be big (hopefully). Showing my favorite song of theirs as well.

life. prominent. prominence. pro - min.ence. essence. oomm watcha sayyyy . mmm thats its all or the best. hide and seek.
So it took me like a year to write that last section. and this part is taking a second. why is that? well. i’ll tell you. thats because this is me trying to project to you. the viewer.. and that was what my thoughts decided to apprehend and put down on.. well i can’t say pen and paper. but close enough.
if only it was more significant.
people. think about that right there. people. they aren’t need in life are they? if thats what some people think, I donno about that. Think about it from the basis of all life. Why is it that I am able to type what I am typing at this very instant? Language. and why is there language? communication. if you didn’t need to affiliate with other people, then there would be no reason for language. but it is there. and it is the one thing, in this whole world, that is EVERYWHERE. i feel as though even trees communicate. be it through the leaves, how it flows in the wind, what ever. it does it somehow. it communicates. and even it does it somehow. all of this, communcation for nothing? nay. cannot be. socializing and interaction is a part of every life and we cannot live without. However big or small, everything you do. involves it. because there would be nothing without others. no sharing of knowledge. socializing. communication. language. people.
Trip. Everything that I am seeing is different, but it still has to be the same in the end of it. because it is based off of the mind that is seeing things differently it in the first place. Because everything that is different is something that your mind percieves opposed to its normal. but then what is your minds normal? is it possible to even know your own mind’s so called “normal”. even the word normal. how does my mind even know that word. but. if there was a way to actually find this normal, your world would be so different, i dont even know how to apprehend what it could be like. to know what your mind projects as normal. Trip.
